Atish Mukhopadhyay - Sarod Artist

Atish Mukhopadhyay’s passion for experimentation, study and appreciation of non-Indian music and love of intercultural musical collaborations make him a strong representative of a new generation of Indian musicians. He has already worked with Japanese Music and Jazz music in different cross culture projects. As a composer, Atish composed musical themes on ‘Meditation and Peace’ in 2004.

Recently, Atish’s Sarode album – ‘The Majestic Senia Sarode’ has been released by ‘Raga Music’ in India.

Atish, as a music teacher has been very successful. He has been teaching since the year 2000 in traditional way- it is the same way that he studied music from his great Gurus. While teaching his Indian students, Atish also teaches students from abroad. In 2008, Atish gave lecture-demonstration at the University of Pennsylvania, USA.

In 2009 Atish again gave lecture-demonstrations as the first Indian Musician at the Music Conservatory in Saint Petersburg, Russia.

Atish toured to Saint Petersburg, Russia for his solo performances as the first ever Sarode player. He has been also the first Sarode player to visit Russia to represent his Gharana. Atish is the first musician who got the invitation to perform Indian Music at the ‘Filarmony’ (Phil Harmonic- the most elite concert hall for chamber Orchestra) and the ‘Ethnography Museum’ in Saint Petersburg, Russia.

Atish was invited to perform at the International Music Festival in Uzbekistan organized by Govt. of Uzbekistan and patronage by UNESCO as the first ever Solo-Instrumentalist from India in the history of this prestigious international event to represent India.
