August marks the release of Paste magazine’s first-ever International Issue. This is something that no other music magazine in the country has done or could do right now. Paste has put together an entire issue of unknown (at least to many American audiences) bands – a tribute to the trust it has earned from its readers and the confidence it has in its writers, editors and, quite frankly, musical taste.

Just in time for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, the Munich-born editor-in-chief (who hasn’t missed an Olympic games in 24 years) scoured the world for signs of life in music, film and culture.

The fruits of which range from a chance encounter with Posies frontman Ken Stringfellow, now living in Paris and fronting a Norwegian garage-rock band, to a trip – literally – around the world following globetrotting musician DJ Diplo from London to Jakarta to Singapore and beyond.
